Good!

It starts off a little abrasive and annoying, but the instrumentation that comes in later really livens it up and the phrases are quite fresh. I feel like everything in this song fits together really well, the way lasagna is layered very specifically.

Nice and Layered

The layers of synth are done really well, and I really like the "oomph" behind the drums, too, but the whole thing seems inside the box, almost. From the first 10 seconds of the song, you pretty much know the boundaries of where this song will go and where it won't. You could have added in something really trippy or new, but you didn't.

Then again, I think I've listened to this song about 1000+ times on Platform Racing 2, so this review is pretty critical.

Kind of Obnoxious

The drums and bass are so repetitive I found myself annoyed by them. The guitar also screeches a bit more than I would like for a song like this. The solo is good, and all in all this isn't bad at all, but listening to it is kind of like eating a potato chip; I've already eaten tons like it, and I probably will after the 5 seconds it takes me to eat this one, too. Not to mention it's way too short.

WOW!

I've never heard a fusion quite like this before! Generally songs are either 8-bit or not, but I've never heard a song with layers that are both 8-bit and normal quality! This sounds absolutely incredible together! The synth and metal go together like a double helix, and the outcome sounds very natural!

The one thing I thought would have been really clever is if you had a question in 8-bit or on guitar, and have the other part provide the answer. With two sounds that are so much different, you've got a lot of things to play with. You've barely scratched the surface here!

MashedByMachines responds:

Ah, I see what you mean! Like a dueling melody with one part beeing the guitar and one the synth :D great idea!

Actually if you liked this, stay tuned for 2 more songs like this coming up on my new (free) album later this month :)

Damn

Around half a minute in I was thinking "this is great", until I realized that the song really wasn't going anywhere. The phrases seem to end where they begin, which really sucks because this piece could be really incredible if you added some kind of steady decline. Also the drums sound pretty unnatural.

Tone Down the Distortion!

This sounds really, REALLY good. Sadly I was barely able to hear a lot of the instrumentation over the distortion, which pissed me off since it sounded really good! If you want to keep the distortion, then maybe make the notes more accentuated to make them more audible. As it is, I can't help but feeling like I'm missing out.

AliceMako responds:

Well i'm sorry you feel like you're missing out, though i'm pretty sure there's nothing noteworthy going on "underneath" the distortion.

If you'd really like it, hit me up with a message and i'll post a cleaner version for you.

(though keep in mind, it'll be a manual filtering as this is a live recording, so odds are it will still sound fairly messy)

Yuck!

The same 7-second loop over and over and OVER?! This just drills a hole in my head. It's annoying, to be quite honest. Maybe some kind of gentler bassline would have made it less painful to listen to. And maybe introducing a new phrase before half the song is over.

WOW!

This sounds so... Natural! I really love it! You sure know how to recognize good music when you hear it; everything you cover rules!

Oooh!

This is awesome, but it could use more progression. I know this is a remix, but doesn't the original have a lot more to it than this? Sustained notes were also kind of annoying.

Great Mix

Great instrumentation of a fantastic classic, I must say my only complaint is that the repetitions were VERY repetitive... As in, identical. Generally you can add extra oomph to them by changing the volume, distortion, or adding/removing different elements for repetitions to make them sound a little more progressive.

Once upon a time, water taught itself how to feel pain.
